Do you ever experience pain while running? Ever have sore shoulders or feet/ankles while running? It can possibly be your running form that may be hindering your performance. Do you want to improve your running form to boost your running economy, improve performance, and lower your risk of injury? Here is a short info video on how to improve your running technique.

It is important to engage your care and gaze forward, while keeping your hands loose and using a relaxed arm swing. It is important to broaden your chest and land directly under your hip as you drive your body forward. To maximize running efficiency and economy, a good trick is to maximize the time of air in your lungs by slowing down your exhalation slightly, especially with pursed lips. This may be difficult because it will require conscious breathing control, but just imaging how difficult this would be if you were at mile 9 of a marathon.

What is running economy? It’s the energy demand for a given velocity of submaximal running meaning that you can calculate how well you run relatively to someone else at a given exercise. Running efficiency is just the ratio between the energy produced at an exercise and the energy cost. We use running economy to calculate running performance mainly.

-Use short, fast strides to conserve energy
-Midfoot strike to help propel you forward
-Forefoot strike will utilize more muscle activation when you land
-Roll feet inward slightly to absorb shock of landing

DO NOT:
-Tilt head down
-Slump shoulders
-Crossing arms in front of body
-Heel striking
-Stresses knees
-Risk of lower extremity injury
-Slows you down
